An audio practice for when you can't meditate
6 min practice for people who struggle to meditate
Meditation is wonderful thing and is a key part of my work, AND so many people struggle to sit in stillness and focus on their breathe or body.
There are many reasons why this is tricky, so please know if this is you, there’s nothing wrong with you.
Everything in our world is pulling us away from sitting in stillness. If we are wired to be active, productive and switched on all of the time, then to suddenly come to place of stillness can be too extreme for our nervous system.
We need a way to come down gently into the present moment before bringing out attention towards our breath and body.
You may even find that when you’v tried to meditate you’ve felt restless and anxious, so this practice (called ‘orientation’) is about us tuning into the environment through our senses.
When we do this, we are bringing our attention to the ordinary, mundane things in the space around us. This sends signals of safety to our nervous system so that it can relax in it’s own time.
Whenever you feel stuck in your head, notice feelings of tension or stress in your body - come back to ‘orientation’. It’s a fail safe way of being present and calm, without overwhelming yourself with stillness. It’s your safest bet!
Give this a try, notice how you feel and let me know in the comments.
Enjoy….
Sending warm vibes
Leah
PS - Being stuck in a state of stress can be exhausting for us, and you may not remember what it’s like not to feel like this. But it is possible, with practice to find a new baseline of calm and ease. Let’s chat and see what that could be like for you - book a call here.
